Before applying for a swimming pool construction permit you should review the city of Ottawa bylaws pertaining to enclosure permits.
Although Splash Pools and Spas recommends reviewing the city of Ottawa bylaw documents before construction, we will provide you with the coles notes version of applying for and obtain a enclosure permit from the city of Ottawa.
When applying for your enclosure permit there are a few things that you should consider when designing your backyard.
The city of Ottawa will require the following 3 things:
1) a pool enclosure permit application which you can download and print here.
2) a certified cheque or money order to the City of Ottawa in the amount of $155.00 which you will need to submit with the application
3) a schematic with the proposed location of the pool on your property.
We have attached an example of a lot plan depicting the thing you will need to indicate on your schematic which are as follows:
1) length, width, shape of your property to scale
2) location of your house and laneway on your property
3) Streets you live on
4) access for heavy equipment during construction
5) location of swimming pool in relation to house, side lots and back lot including length and width of pool
6) decking around the pool including width
7)location of the pump, filter and heater
8) location of fence
9) indicate gates
10) indicate wells if any

Attached is a working copy of a blank lot plan that you can print and use to indicate the above and submit.
